Yakety Yack, Don’t Talk Back: Hader Cleanin’ Up to Tune of $250 M. at Popular Music Haven

A building described by some as “the most important generator of popular songs in the Western world,” including The Coasters‘ 1958 hit Yakety Yak, has been sold to the tune of $250 million.

The Brill Building at 1619 Broadway is famous for housing music industry offices and studios where some of the most popular American music tunes were written over the last several decades.

Now, its new owners – real estate investor Eric Hadar of Allied Partners and private equity firm Brickman – plan to renovate and reposition the building as a media hub that will house the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

StyleCaster Celebrates Birthday with Relocation

StyleCaster Media Group, a fashion and beauty media company that publishes StyleCaster.com as well as BeautyHigh, DailyMakeover and TheVivant, has marked its fifth birthday by signing a 10-year lease for 23,430 square feet, the entire 11th floor, at 440 Ninth Avenue, The Commercial Observer has learned. Asking rent was in the high-$40s per square foot.

“In the past year we have tripled our company size, doubled our revenues and brought on more team members,” said Meghan Cross, director of communications. “We’re celebrating our hyper growth by moving.”

The media company has been based at 49 West 27th Street since its founding in 2008 and plans to move to 440 Ninth Avenue in October following a build out which will aim to recreate StyleCaster’s current studio space.

Under Armour Squeezes into Starrett-Lehigh

Under Armour, maker of form-fitting sportswear, will squeeze into a new space after inking a 19,000-square-foot deal in the Starrett-Lehigh Building at 601 West 26th Street, an address primed to profit from the sizzling Midtown South market and massive Hudson Yards development.

The 10-year lease will bring the tenant to part of the 15th floor of the 20-story building occupying the entire block between 26th and 27th Streets and 11th and 12th Avenues. It’s Under Armour’s first NYC space.

Jason Greenstein and David Falk of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented the tenant. The landlord, RXR Realty, was represented in-house. Asking rent was in the $60s per square foot.
