Société Générale de Surveillance Inks Deal

SGS SA is taking 10,500 square feet at 252 West 37th Street.

Formerly known as Société Générale de Surveillance, SGS SA is a multinational company that inspects, verifies, tests, and certifies services and traded goods. The company is divided into ten divisions based on industries, such as Consumer Testing Services, Government and Institutions, Automative, and Oil, Gas, and Chemicals.

SGA operates out of more than 1,350 offices and laboratories and employs in excess of 70,000 workers. Its United States headquarters is based in New Jersey, and this new lease will mark its first New York office.

R.G. Vanderweil Takes 1001 Sixth Avenue

R.G. Vanderweil Engineers, an engineering consulting firm, has signed on for 8,715 square feet of space at 1001 Avenue of the Americas. The lease is for a 10-year term and will see the firm, due to growth, relocate from 499 Seventh Avenue.

Bret Varricchio and Garett Varricchio from Murray Hill Properties represented the tenant, while Douglas Regal, from ABS Partners Real Estate, represented the landlord.

The firm will occupy the entire 21st floor of the building once its build out of the space is completed.

Civic Entertainment Hits Park Ave. South, Again

Civic Entertainment will be moving up the block to a new office in 470 Park Avenue South.

The marketing firm is set to leave its office at 450 Park Avenue South to move into a 9,361 square foot space on the 16th floor of TIAA-CREF’s building.

Allen Gurevich, a director of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank specializing in media and entertainment industry leases, brokered the deal for Civic Entertainment. 470 Park Avenue South was represented by its leasing team from JRT Realty Group. The team consists of JRT’s executive vice president, Greg Smith, senior director, John Thompson, and an associate, Kate Pezzolla.

The lease in the building was set for seven years.

470 Park Avenue, a pre-war and class A building, was constructed in 1912 and features a two tower design with the north and south tower spanning twelve and seventeen stories, respectively. The building offers over 290,000 square feet with floor plates around 10,000 square feet.

HMS Productions Renews on West 39th Street

HMS Productions has renewed its lease at 250 West 39th Street.

The apparel design company will maintain a 33,913-square-foot space on the twelfth floor of the 39th Street Fashion Center.

HMS Productions, a subsidiary of its Tokyo-based parent company, ILLIG, was found in 1997 and produces men's and women's apparel. The company operates more than 400 boutique stores throughout Asia, North and Central America, and Africa.

The company brought in a brokerage team of Catherine O'Toole, Jonathan Mines, and Daniel Creighton from Tarter Stats O'Toole to represent them in the deal. The brokers for the landlord, Lincoln Property Company, was not disclosed.

The Class B office building was designed by Schwartz & Gross and constructed in 1927. The building spans over 200,000 square feet of rentable space. Nearly three-fourths of the tenants are within the fashion industry, ranging from design and production to importing and exporting firms.
