Comcast Finalizes $1.3 Billion 30 Rock Buy

Comcast has closed on its $1.3 billion purchase of 1.3 million square feet of office and studio space at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, city records confirm.

The transaction was part of the media and communications giant’s $16.7 billion purchase of a 49 percent stake in NBCUniversal from General Electric, announced last month.

The location, the centerpiece of Rockefeller Center, is host to the property’s annual Christmas tree lighting and inspiration for the title of NBC’s television series “30 Rock.”

Data Center Initiates First Phase Downtown

Intergate.Manhatan, a 1 million-square-foot high-rise data center at 375 Pearl Street has initiated its first phase, it was announced last week.

Commissioned through Seattle-based Sabey Data Center Properties, the data center will ultimately accommodate 40 Megawatts of data center capacity over 600,000 square feet of floor space, according to a statement.

The 32-story facility is the largest data-center in the world and includes new infrastructure, climate control and electrical systems. As of last week, Intergate.Manhattan began providing computing cycles to the New York Genome Center, the building’s first tenant, to support medical research.

“Ensuring that institutions-–whether they’re financial services firms or health care providers or life science pioneers like the New York Genome Center – can securely store, access and share data is key to our city’s tech future,” said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a press conference. “That’s why Intergate.Manhattan is such an important addition to New York City’s data infrastructure and to our economy.”

New York-Presbyterian's $1 Billion Expansion Wins Approval

New York-Presbyterian Hospital last Thursday got the O.K. from state health regulators for its expansion and takeover of New York Downtown Hospital.

The nation's second oldest hospital will build a new ambulatory care center at 1283 York Avenue. The facility will be home to facilities for surgery, infusion therapy, primary car, MRIs and radiology. It will cost an estimated $895.5 million.

The project brings New York-Presbyterian in line with modern healthcare developments that have seen the rise of ambulatory care centers as they administer medical duties once performed in the hospital. Montefiore Medical Center and North Shore-LIJ Health System recently built such facilities.
